TULSA, Okla. – Sam Sewell continued his strong start to the season for University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Golf Tuesday by earning medalist honors as the NSU Classic.
Sewell carded a 202 (-11), tying the record relative to par set by Jeremy Tandoy last season. He also tied the 36-hole record relative to par at nine under. He tallied rounds of 67-66-69 and finished with a team-high 15 birdies.
He shot seven-under on par-5s and was one of six players to shoot under par on par-3s.
Braylon Mahanay tied for 28th in his first tournament for the Lions, shooting an even-par 213. Mahanay had rounds of 73-67-73 and tied with JD Frederiksen with 10 birdies. Frederiksen tied for 49th with a 217 (+4) with rounds of 78-69-70.
Murphy Allard and Preston Green each tied for 55th with a 218 (+5), with Allard carding rounds of 73-68-77. Green had rounds of 75-74-69 playing as an individual. Allard and Frederiksen each had one eagle for the Lions.
Phisher Phillips rounded out the UAFS lineup with a 224 (+11) with rounds of 74-72-78.
UAFS tied for sixth as a team with an 846 (+5). The Lions had rounds of 287-270-289, with the second round 270 (-14) a new program record. UAFS finished top three in par-3 and par-4 scoring and had the fourth-most pars with 165. They totaled 50 birdies.
