BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Sam Sewell returned to the top five as he tied for fifth Tuesday to lead University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Golf at the Tulsa Cup.
Sewell tied for the second most birdies in the tournament with 13 as he carded a 54-hole total of 211 (-5). He had five birdies each in rounds two and three as he shot rounds of 71-70-70. He finished second in par-3 scoring and sixth in par-4 scoring.
Murphy Allard was in the top five after two rounds of play with a 139 (-5) but carded a 78 in the final round as the teams battled wet conditions to finish with a 217 (+1) to tie for 18th. Allard finished the event with eight birdies.
Alex Bloxham tied for 31st with a 220 (+4), carding rounds of 69-76-75 with nine birdies while Braylon Mahanay tied for 38th with a 221 (+5) after rounds of 70-75-76. Mahanay was bogey-free in round one and led the tournament with 44 pars.
Phisher Phillips rounded out the lineup with a 228 (+12) with rounds of 78-74-76 to tie for 71st and finish with five birdies.
The Lions got off to a fast start, shooting a 280 (-8) in the opening round before finishing fourth with an 865 (+1). The Lions had rounds of 288 and 297 in rounds two and three. UAFS totaled 38 birdies and had a tournament-high 186 pars.
UAFS will return to action in the spring at the Houston Classic February 9-10 at the Golf Club of Houston in Houston, Texas.
