GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Simone Campise posted a career-best finish by tying for sixth at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic Saturday to lead University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Golf to a tie for fourth against a field filled with ranked foes.
Campise carded a round one 74 (+2) and followed that up with a 73 (+1) in round two to finish with a 147 (+3). She tallied two eagles in the opening round and recorded six birdies. Campise led the Lions in scoring on par-4s by shooting even par. The 73 matches her career low round while the sixth bests her previous top finish of 15th.
Sidney Stramel matched Campise's round two 73 after a first round 76 (+3) as she totaled a 149 (+5) to tie for 16th. She had four birdies on the front nine during her final round and tied for a team-high eight birdies for the tournament.
After a first round 81, Sydney Williams returned to form in round two with an even par 72, starting her back nine off with four consecutive birdies. Williams finished tied for 40th with a 153 (+9) and tied with Stramel with eight birdies.
Rachel Hicks tied for 54th with a 155 (+11) with rounds of 75-80, while Marvelyn Kartika tied for 65th with a 157 (+13) after shooting rounds of 79-78. Hicks tallied a team-high 18 pars.
The Lions tied for fourth in a field that featured 11 teams ranked in the top 50 with a two-day total of 600 (+24). They carded rounds of 304 and 296, with the 296 being the third lowest round of the second round.
UAFS led the tournament in par-5 scoring (-9) and had the second most birdies with 33.
The Lions remain in Arizona for their final tune up before the Lone Star Conference championships with the West Texas A&M Desert Invite April 3-4 a the Lodge at Ventana Canyon in Tucson, Arizona.
