THACKERVILLE, Okla. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Golf wrapped up play at the Lone Star Conference Championships Tuesday, finishing 11th at WinStar Golf Club.
The Lions were in position to contend for a top-four spot to advance to match play after the first two rounds but faded back in round three.
UAFS posted its best round to par in round one, recording a 284 (-4), which had it in fourth place. UAFS finished day one in fifth, six strokes off advancing after a second-round 301. The Lions then carded a 306 in round three to tally a three-round total of 891 (+27).
Andrew Fakult led the Lions in a tie for 13th after shooting a 218 (+2). He shot a one-under 71 in round one and followed that up with a 72 (E) in round two. Fakult finished with the second most pars of any player in the tournament with 38 while carding seven birdies.
Ryan Bell finished tied for 28th with a 222 (+6), tying with Jeremy Tandoy for a low round of 70 (-2) in round one. Bell tallied scores of 78 and 74 in rounds two and three, respectively, and recording eight birdies over the three rounds.
In addition to his low round of 70, Tandoy led the Lions with a team-high nine birdies as he finished 39th with a 225 (+9). He carded scores of 77-78 in the final two rounds.
Preston Green tied for 50th with a 232 (+16) while Jaden Chavez rounded out the UAFS lineup with a 233 (+17) to tie for 53rd. Green had his best round in round one with a 73 (+1) with Chavez tallying his best round in round two with a 74 (+2).
