FORT SMITH, Ark. – Women's golfers Marvelyn Kartika and Sydney Williams have been selected as this week's UAFS Athletes of the Week after leading the women's golf team to a win at the NSU Women's Golf Classic Tuesday.
Kartika was one of two players to record an under-par round on her way to climbing the leaderboard from a tie for 24th after round one to finish in a tie for second with a 145 (+5). Her second round 68 (-2) was the low round for the tournament. She had four birdies on the round and capped her day with an eagle on the par-4 18th. Kartika was one-under on par-3s for the event.
Williams tied for fourth with a 146 (+6), shooting a 73 both days. Williams led all players with 27 pars and had two birdies. Both Williams and Kartika earned All-Tournament honors.
UAFS won the event by 10 strokes over host Northeastern State, finishing with a two-day total of 591. The Lady Lions shot a 299 in round one and 292 in round two. UAFS had the best scoring average on all holes and had tournament highs of 109 pars and 18 birdies.
