STOCKTON, Calif. – Sidney Stramel and Sydney Williams gave everything they had in the final round of the NCAA II West Regional at Brookside Country Club Wednesday as each player tied the program record with a 68 (-4).
What made the feat more impressive is that each player carded a bogey-free round. The mark ties the record Stramel set last season in the Lone Star Conference Championships.
Stramel would finish the tournament tied for eighth with a 215 (-1) with rounds of 75-72-68. Stramel finished the year with back-to-back tournaments under par and five rounds under par this season. She was five under on par-4s – tied for the best mark in the tournament – and led the Lions with nine birdies.
Williams tied for 15th with a 219 (+3) with rounds of 75-76-68 and led UAFS with 40 pars and had six birdies. This was the second round under par for Williams this season.
Rachel Hicks carded a 77 in her final round to tie for 34th with a 227 (+11). She had rounds of 76-74-77 and totaled six birdies.
Marvelyn Kartika finished with rounds of 78-74-77 to finish with a 229 (+13) to tie for 38th while Simone Campise had her best round of the week in round three with a 74 (+2). Campise had rounds of 83-77-74 to finish tied for 56th with a 234 (+18).
UAFS finished sixth as a team with an 887 (+23), just four strokes from earning the fifth and final transfer spot to the NCAA Championships next week. The 287 (-1) it fired in round three is a new program best. The Lions shaved off eight strokes from their first-round score in round two and improved by nine strokes from round two to three.
Stramel came up one stroke shy from advancing to next week's tournament as an individual.
