Women's Golf selected for NCAA II West Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Golf has qualified for the NCAA II Women's Golf West Regional for the second consecutive year, as the NCAA II Women's Golf committee announced the selected field and individuals that will compete in the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships Monday.

The NCAA Division II women's golf regional competition will be conducted May 2-4. Each site will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. UAFS will play at Brookside Golf and Country Club in Stockton, California.

All participants will compete through the 54 holes of competition. The top three (central) and five (east, south and west) teams along with the top two individuals not on an advancing team will advance to the championships.

The championships will be held May 10-14 at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Georgia. The number of participants that qualify for the finals is 98.

Joining UAFS in the regional are Dallas Baptist, West Texas A&M, Cal State San Marcos, Texas A&M International, Biola, Cal State Monterey Bay, Texas A&M-Commerce, St. Mary's, Cal State East Bay, Colorado Christian and Western Washington.

UAFS is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships where Sidney Stramel finished tied for second as an individual.

The Lions played in Stockton earlier this season in preparation for the regional, tying for fourth out of 19 teams.

This season, the Lions are averaging 305.9 strokes per round and have one win at the Nick Turner Invitational. Stramel, Sydney Williams and Rachel Hicks all have three top 10s on the year, with Stramel and Williams leading the charge with 75.6 and 76.2 strokes per round, respectively.
