ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sydney Williams won a five-hole playoff as she captured individual medalist honors Tuesday at the Nick Turner Invitational at Arroyo del Oso Golf Club.
Williams was tied with Caroline Wales of Cal State San Marcos after 36-holes but won the playoff to take home the trophy. Williams finished with a two-round total of 145 (+1) after carding a 71 (-1) in round two with three birdies. She shot a 74 (+2) in round one and was tied for eighth after 18 holes.
Sidney Stramel also earned a top 10 by tying for sixth with a 147 (+3). Stramel was tied with Williams after round one and shot a 73 (+1) in round two. Stramel and Simone Campise tied for the team lead with six birdies each.
Campise would finish tied for 25th after firing a 152 (+8). She carded a first-round 78 before improving with a second-round 74.
Rounding out the lineup for the Lions were Maisie Liddell and Marvelyn Kartika. Liddell finished in a tie for 38th while Kartika tied for 50th. Liddell carded rounds of 79 and 77 to finish with a 156 (+12) while Kartika shot an 80 in both rounds for a 160 (+16).
As a team, the Lions finished third overall with a 600 (+24) with rounds of 305 and 295. The 295 was the low round of round two. After ending the first round in sixth, the Lions briefly led halfway through round two before finishing five strokes off the lead.
