HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. – Sophomore Matt McKown shot a 4-over par 146 to lead the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions golf team to a fifth-place finish in the Natural State Golf Classic at Red Apple Inn in Heber Springs.
UA Fort Smith shot a 31-over par 599 during the two-day event that finished on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions were 34 strokes behind North Alabama University, which won the event with a 3-over par 565.
McKown finished tied for eighth overall. Junior Will Fogleman finished 11th with a 5-over par 147, sophomore Patrick Willey and junior Ethan Adamson finished tied for 28th with an 11-over par 153 and junior Trent Hill finished tied for 41st with a 16-over par 158.
Junior Johannah Hendrex shot a 25-over par 167 to lead the Lady Lions to a fourth-place finish. UA Fort Smith shot a 108-over par 676 and finished 24 strokes behind host Harding University, which won the event with an 84-over par 652.
Hendrex finished tied for seventh. Sophomore Sidney Tallon finished tied for ninth with a 26-over par 168, junior Lacy Martin finished tied for 13th with a 28-over par 170, freshman Jami Hendrix finished tied for 15th with a 29-over par 171 and freshman Jordan Bozeman finished 24th with a 45-over par 187.
