LAKE CITY, Minn. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Golf took home the team title Tuesday at the Jewel Invitational, earning its first team win since September 2022, when the Lions won their first two events of the season.
UAFS started the day three strokes back of Minnesota State but beat the Mavericks by five strokes in round two to win by two strokes. The Lions finished a 592 (+24), recording rounds of 298 and 294. The 294 was the low round of the tournament.
The Lions had 130 total pars, 13 more than the next team and finished third overall with 17 birdies. UAFS was one of two teams to record an eagle and led par-5 scoring by five strokes.
UAFS had three players finish in the top five, led by a third place showing by Ali Perry. Perry shot an even-par 71 in round two to follow a first round 75 for a 146 (+4). Perry and Aliesa Situmorang each led the Lions with five birdies. Perry finished at one-under on par-5s.
Situmorang and Lauren Evans each tied for fourth with a 147 (+5), with Situmorang carding rounds of 72-75 while Evans tallied rounds of 75-72. Evans led the Lions in par-4 scoring and tallied the lone eagle. Evans and Perry each led the Lions with 23 pars.
Kaitlyn Canales shot a 154 (+12) to tie for 15th, recording rounds of 76-78. Canales led the Lions in par-3 scoring by shooting even par.
Kenley McElyea tallied a 156 (+14) to place 22nd with rounds of 80-76 while Catherine Haas-Black tied for 30th with a 161 (+19) and rounds of 81-80.
UAFS is off until October 13-14 when the Lions take on the Midwest Classic at Mules National Golf Club in Warrensburg, Missouri.
