JOPLIN, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Cross Country took part in its second race of the season Saturday morning, running in the Missouri Southern Stampede.
The women took 10th of 22 teams with 325 points in the 5k event while the men placed 17th of 26 teams with 493 points.
Madison Thurston once again led the Lion women with another personal best at 19:20.4, placing 51st. Cecilia Perez also had a personal best in the 5k, running a 19:53.0 to place 73rd. Next to finish for the Lions was Annabella Tedder in 87th with a time of 20:17.4.
Rounding out the top five for the Lions were Hailey Malik in 20:32.8 and Michaela Kaelin in 20:44.1. Completing the scoring for UAFS was Zoe Nesbitt in 21:03.1 and Brookelyn Davis in 21:35.8.
Freshman Evan Smith led the UAFS men in the 8k with a time of 26:35.1 to finish 88th. Angel Cordero crossed the line in 26:58.6 to take 112th while Conner Valentine finished 120th in 27:15.0.
Isaac Teague and Adan Castillo rounded out the top five for the Lions in 27:24.7 and 27:27.2, respectively. Joaquin Alva posted a time of 27:51.3 and Troy Ferguson finished in 27:59.7 to finish the scoring for the Lions.
