JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Jeremy Tandoy claimed individual medalist honors and Chandler Cooke finished runner up as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Golf wrapped up a strong showing at the MIAA Championships Wednesday.
Tandoy was the leader in the clubhouse after 36 holes on day one, then finished up his tournament with a 72 (E) to become the first MIAA champion in school history. He tallied round of 69-68 on the opening day as he finished with a 209 (-7).
Tandoy finished the tournament second in par-4 scoring and tallied 13 birdies, second in the tournament only to Cooke's 15. Tandoy led UAFS with 36 pars.
Cooke rallied from a first round 76 with a 67 (-5) in round two, the lowest of the event. He then completed the tournament with a final round 68 to finish with a 211 (-5).
Cooke and Tandoy each earned All-MIAA honors, as well, for their placement during MIAA events throughout the season.
Alex Bloxham tied for 20th with a 219 (+2) as he carded rounds of 73-76-70. He had four of his 10 birdies in round three and led the Lions in scoring on par-5s and par-3s.
Judd Hays tied for 29th competing as an individual, as he shot a 223 (+7) with rounds of 77-72-74 and totaled nine birdies.
Christopher Taylor and Preston Green rounded out the UAFS lineup, as Taylor tied for 46th with a 228 (+12) and Green tied for 48th with a 232 (+13).
The Lions finished third as a team with an 864 (E), recording rounds of 291-286-287. UAFS finished 12-under on par-5s and totaled the third-most birdies with 49.
UAFS now awaits word on the NCAA II Central Regional, where the Lions ranked 10th in the latest rankings. The regional is set for May 8-10 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
