Guard Reed to bring toughness to women's basketball program

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Basketball Head Coach Ryan McAdams has announced the signing of guard Maiya Reed to join the Lions' 2023 recruiting class.

The 5-foot-6-inch Reed, a native of Munford, Tennessee, played the last two seasons at Walters State Community College, helping the Senators reach the NJCAA national tournament both times.

"Maiya is toughness personified," McAdams said. "She is very driven and will do whatever it takes to win. She leads by example with her effort on both ends of the floor. She comes from a tremendous junior college program where she has been coached at a high level. Maiya is another floor general who will solidify our point guard position this season."

Reed started all 30 games last season and averaged 7.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game as the Senators were Tennessee Community College Athletic Association champions.

She scored in double figures seven times with a high of 21 points at Chattanooga State Community College. She had 15 games with at least five assists with a season-high of 10.

In her freshman year at WSCC, Reed averaged 5.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
