Stramel highlights LSC Championships with second place finish

GLEN ROSE, Texas – Sidney Stramel headlined another record-breaking Lone Star Conference Championship for University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Women's Golf by tying for second when stroke play concluded Friday at Squaw Valley Golf Course.

Stramel posted under-par scores in all three rounds, capping her tournament with a three-under 69. She carded two eagles in the round, including on her first hole of the day on the par-5 eighth hole. Stramel recorded a 70 (-2) in each of the first two rounds.

Stramel's 36-hole score of 140 bests her mark of 141 at last season's LSC Championships while her 209 (-7) bests the 215 she posted last season, as well. Stramel led the Lions with 13 birdies for the tournament. For her efforts, Stramel was named to the All-Tournament team.

Sydney Williams showed off her ability to drive the ball as she totaled a tournament best three eagles. Williams and Stramel were the only players to tally multiple eagles and were two of three players to shoot nine-under on par-5s.

Williams shot a 74 in both the first and third round and carded a one-under 71 in round two. She finished tied for 23rd with a 219 (+3) and totaled 10 birdies.

Rachel Hicks recorded eight birdies on her way to shooting a 228 (+12) to tie for 40th. Hicks shot even-par 72 in round one and finished with rounds of 79 and 77.

Marvelyn Kartika led the Lions with 34 pars as she tied for 43rd with a 229 (+13). She carded rounds of 76, 81 and 72. Maisie Liddell rounded out the lineup for the Lions with a 241 (+25) to tie for 67th. Liddell had scores of 80, 83, 78.

As a team, the Lions shot a 292 (+4) in both rounds one and three, breaking the previous record of 293 for an 18-hole round set last season. They shot a 301 in round two to finish with an 885 (+21) in eighth place, a new 54-hole mark.

UAFS was 13th in the latest NCAA II West Regional Rankings, with the field set to be announced April 25. The NCAA II West Regional is slated for May 2-4 at Brookside Golf & Country Club in Stockton, California.
