FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball continues its stretch of three consecutive road weekends as the Lions are set to visit Newman this weekend for a three-game MIAA series.
First pitch of the series is set for 3 p.m. Friday followed by a 2 p.m. start Saturday for game two. The series then wraps up Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games will be streamed on the MIAA Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.
UAFS will then host Northeastern State on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the first game of a multi-week midweek series. The game will be streamed on the MIAA Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5 with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: UAFS visited Fort Hays State where the Tigers won all three games in the series.
SACRIFICE: Outfielder JJ Young ranks 10th in the MIAA with three sacrifice bunts while outfielder Nick Mazzola is eighth with three sacrifice flies.
AT THE PLATE: Infielder Layne Sweat leads the Lions with a .362 batting average with two homers and 11 runs driven in.
SCOUTING NU: The Jets are 4-17, 2-9 MIAA and last in the league in batting average at .236. At the plate, outfielder Kaynan Kaku leads the Jets with a .314 average with two homers and 14 RBIs. Newman has a 9.60 team ERA on the mound.
SCOUTING NSU: The RiverHawks are 6-15, 1-8 MIAA while averaging 7.3 runs per game. Infielder Klete Finley leads NSU with a .380 average with four homers and 17 RBIs. Righty Thomas Brownfield has tossed 24.0 innings on the mound in five starts with a 3.38 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
THE SERIES: UAFS leads the all-time series with the Jets, 27-20, and is 12-10 against Northeastern State.
