Baseball to begin eight-game homestand Tuesday

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball returns home this week as the Lions begin an eight-game homestand starting Tuesday against Rogers State.

The Hillcats will visit Crowder Field for a 3 p.m. first pitch Tuesday followed by the Lions hosting Washburn for a weekend series. The series against Washburn begins Friday at 4 p.m. followed by 1 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday.

All four games will be streamed on the MIAA Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5 with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: After defeating Northeastern State in a midweek contest, the Lions were swept at Northwest Missouri State.

HEATING UP: Catcher Ryan Riggs raised his batting average to .295 after going 7-for-12 with a double, triple, six RBIs and a run scored in the series at Northwest Missouri.

8: The eight runs the Lions scored in the fifth inning of game one at NWMSU are the second most in an inning this season, as the Lions scored 10 in a single frame against Newman.

AT THE PLATE: Outfielder JJ Young is batting .455 with runners on base and .421 with two outs.

SCOUTING RSU: The Hillcats are 17-8, 7-6 MIAA and will be playing just their eighth road game of the season. Rogers State leads the MIAA in fielding percentage and is led offensively by catcher Weston Peninger with a .375 average and five homers and 23 RBIs. UAFS will likely face Cole Abbott on the mound, who is 1-1 with a 5.34 ERA this season.

SCOUTING WU: The Ichabods are 14-14, 7-9 MIAA and lead the league and are fourth nationally in home runs with 47. Catcher Hayden Priest is batting .350 with seven homers and 30 RBIs while utility Jett Buck has a team-high 10 homers and 38 RBIs. On the mound, reliever Caden Bressler is 1-2 with a 2.97 ERA in 30.1 innings pitched.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 19-10 all-time against Rogers State while this weekend will mark the first time the Lions and Ichabods meet on the diamond.
