FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Cross Country made the short trip north to Fayetteville Saturday, with both teams running in the Chile Pepper Festival.
The women finished 19th in the Harter's Habanero 5k with 571 points and 19:21.22 average time while the men placed ninth in the Prairie Fire Pepper 8k with 277 points and a 29:05.68 average time.
Cadence Hodge paced the women with a 79th-place finish in a field that consisted of numerous NCAA I, II, III, NJCAA and NAIA schools. Hodge finished with a time of 18:12.8, followed by Hailey Malik in 123rd in a time of 18:50.7.
Next to cross the line were Zoe Nesbitt and Madison Thurston, who crossed the line together with times of 19:46.7 and 19:47.4, respectively. Annabella Tedder rounded out the top five for the Lions with a time of 20:08.5.
Conner Valentine led the men's lineup with a 31st-place finish in a time of 28:12.6 with Tyreek Gilkey not far behind in 40th in a time of 28:23.6.
Luke Bledsoe took 69th in 29:10.0 while Parker Brown was 76th in 29:36.4, with Isaac Teague completing the top five for the Lions in 93rd in 30:05.8.
UAFS will have next week off before returning to action October 12 for its final regular season meet at the UAH Chargers Invitational in Huntsville, Alabama.
