TULSA, Okla. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Cross Country wrapped up its first race of the season Thursday night as the Lions competed in the Rogers State Distance After Dark event.
UAFS finished fifth in the women's 5k with 148 points and ninth in the men's 4-mile with 219 points.
Madison Thurston paced the Lion women for the first time in her career, placing 34th with a personal best time of 19:33.42. Rachel Malik followed closely behind in 36th with a 19:48.44 while Hailey Malik rounded out the top three for the Lions in 39th with a 20:08.63.
Completing the top five for the Lions were Annabella Tedder with a 20:11.15 and Cecilia Perez with a 20:24.55 while Michaela Kaelin and Zoe Nesbitt concluded the scoring for the Lions with times of 20:38.44 and 20:48.17, respectively.
For the men, Troy Ferguson led the Lions for the second straight season by finishing 42nd with a time of 21:49.55. Angel Cordero finished just seconds behind in 21:52.35 while Conner Valentine and Brody McDonald crossed the line simultaneously with times of 22:08.26 and 22:08.58, respectively.
Isaac Teague made up the top five for the Lions with a time of 22:26.49 while Evan Smith and Sawyer Beller provided the top seven finishers for the Lions with times of 22:36.01 and 23:03.82.
Next up on the schedule for the Lions is the Missouri Southern Stampede on September 20.
