UAFS to open double elimination play against Angelo State Thursday

FORT SMITH, Ark. -  The postseason continues for University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball this weekend as the Lions advanced to the double elimination round of the Lone Star Conference Championship after defeating West Texas A&M in a best-of-three series last week.

UAFS will next take on Angelo State Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas. Lubbock Christian and UT Permian Basin will match up in the second game of the day. A full breakdown of the weekend schedule can be found below.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS knocked off No. 2 seed West Texas A&M by winning games two and three of the series, 10-4 and 4-1.

LAST ONE STANDING: The Lions were the lone visiting team to advance last weekend, moving on as the No. 7 seed.

STREAKING: Infielder Noah Davis is currently on a 10-game hitting streak as well as a 17-game reached base safely streak.

SEEING DOUBLE: Outfielder Michael Brinton is tied for the most doubles in the LSC with 23, which ranks tied for third nationally.

SCOUTING ASU: The third-seeded Rams swept Texas A&M International last weekend to advance and lead the LSC with a 4.79 team ERA. Tripp Clark leads the Rams at the plate with a .439 average, 12 homers and a league-high 79 RBIs. Right-hander Dax Dathe is second in the league with a 4.24 ERA and has a league-high 95 strikeouts.

FIRST TIME OUT: The Rams took three out of four from the Lions in early March at Crowder Field with two games of the series being decided in the final inning.
