Baseball returns home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball returns home to Crowder Field this week as the Lions prepare to host Texas A&M-Kingsville for a four-game Lone Star Conference series.

The series is set to begin at 1 p.m. Friday followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. The series finale is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. Times are subject to change due to weather.

All four games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5. Live stats will be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS split its series at Texas A&M International, winning the first and final games of the series. Righty Luke Davenport picked up the win in both contests.

IN THE POLLS: The Lions remained at seventh in the latest NCBWA South Central Region poll with 44 points.

6: UAFS has had seven hitting streaks of six games or more this season, including two each by infielder Noah Davis and outfielder Michael Brinton. Brinton has a current streak of six games and had an 11-game streak earlier this season.

LEAGUE LEADER: With his two wins last weekend, Davenport leads the LSC with five wins and has the second lowest ERA at 1.61.

AT THE PLATE: Outfielder Brandon Ulmer leads the Lions and is fourth in the LSC with a .424 batting average. UAFS has four in the top 12 of the league in average. Davis is batting .375 with a team-high three homers and 25 RBIs.

ON THE MOUND: Ty Jones made his first career appearance and tossed three scoreless innings Sunday at TAMIU. Brayden Ross allowed just one run over six innings last week against the Dustdevils and is 2-3 with a 3.91 ERA this season.

SCOUTING TAMUK: The Javelinas are 13-13, 11-13 LSC after dropping three out of four games last week at home to UT Tyler. TAMUK has committed the second most errors in the league this season with 48. Outfielder Jake Chapman tops the Javelinas with a .367 batting average and 23 RBIs while Sergio Lopez leads the pitching staff with a 3-3 record, 2.89 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 28.0 innings pitched.

THE SERIES: UAFS trails in the series, 6-2, but won the most recent meeting last season.
