FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball will welcome St. Mary's to Crowder Field Friday through Sunday as the Lions open the home portion of their 2024 schedule.
First pitch is at 1 p.m. each day with a doubleheader on Saturday. All four games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com. Games Friday and Sunday will be broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5 while Saturday's games will air on KPFW-AM 1230.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: The Lions earned their first sweep since 2021, going 4-0 to open the season at Oklahoma Christian.
IN THE POLLS: UAFS was ranked ninth in the first NCBWA South Central Region poll of the season.
HOME OPENER: UAFS is 10-4 in home openers in NCAA play.
IN SCORING POSITION: The Lions hit .377 last week with runners in scoring position while holding the Eagles to a .167 average with runners in scoring position.
EARLY & OFTEN: UAFS scored 36 of its 49 runs last weekend in the first four innings.
AT THE PLATE: Infielder Noah Davis leads the LSC with a .556 batting average, while the Lions as a team hit .390 over the weekend and are averaging 12.3 runs per game.
ON THE MOUND: UAFS tops the LSC with a 2.40 team ERA, with Riley Lowry, Luke Davenport and Brayden Ross all earning wins after pitching at least four scoreless innings last week.
SCOUTING STMU: The Rattlers are 4-5, 3-5 LSC and are hitting .310 as a team. Outfielder Brendan Concannon leads St. Mary's with a .526 average and seven runs scored. The bullpen is the strength of the Rattler pitching staff, led by right-hander Brett Brown, who has tossed 5.2 scoreless innings in relief.
THE SERIES: UAFS trails in the all-time series, 28-18, with the team's splitting last season's series in San Antonio.
