Volleyball has four earn All-MIAA honors

KANSAS CITY - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Volleyball had four players earn postseason honors after the Lions completed their inaugural MIAA season this fall.

Outside hitters Nyia Anderson and Caelyn Gunn, right-side hitter Morgan Creer and middle blocker Caelyn McDonald all were named All-MIAA honorable mention Wednesday. The postseason awards were voted on by the league's head coaches.

Anderson led the Lions in kills and digs this season, raking up 313 kills on a .182 attack percentage and totaling 379 digs. She posted 17 double-doubles, including six straight to start the season. She tallied a season-high 19 kills against Colorado Springs and had a conference high of 15 twice. She had three matches with more than 20 digs. Anderson also recorded 42 blocks and 26 aces on the year.

Gunn averaged 3.06 kills per set and was second on the team with 285 total kills. Gunn racked up 333 digs and had 11 double-doubles. She had a season-high 18 kills against Pittsburg State and a season-best 21 digs against Fort Hays State. She added 25 blocks and 30 aces on the year, as well.

Creer stepped into the lineup in her first season as a Lion and totaled the third-most kills with 204 on a .208 hitting percentage. Defensively, Creer was second with 86 blocks on a team that led the MIAA with 268 total blocks. Creer's best game came against Cameron, where she hit .500 with 13 kills and seven blocks. In league play, Creer tallied 13 kills and five blocks against Emporia State. She had six matches with 10 or more kills.

McDonald finished sixth in the league and led the Lions with a .324 attack percentage while totaling 186 kills. She ranked third on the team with 83 blocks. McDonald hit above .400 in 11 matches this year, including a season-best .526 against Midwestern State. She hit .478 with a season-high 12 kills in a win at Central Missouri.
