ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Cross Country competed in its first MIAA Championships event Saturday, with the Lions placing 11th in the women's race and 12th in the men's event.
The women totaled 303 points and the men totaled 376 points.
Hailey Malik paced the women's team in the 5k event in 23:24.1 followed by Madison Thurston in 24:12.0. Quincy Efurd, Kailey Pentz and Cecila Perez all finished back-to-back within three seconds of each other to round out the top five for the Lions.
Annabella Tedder was next in 26:24.1 while Jennifer Martinez completed the top seven for UAFS in 29:17.7.
Conner Valentine led the men's team in the 9k race in 27:11.5 while Parker Brown was next in 27:23.6. Tyreek Gilkey, Vincent Gonzales and Troy Ferguson made up the top five for the Lions.
The Lions will wrap up the 2024 season November 9 at the NCAA II Central Regional in Joplin, Missouri.
