HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Freshman Cadence Hodge set her second record of the season Saturday by breaking the program 6k record at the UAH Chargers Invitational. Hodge previously broke the 5k record in the season opening RSU Distance After Dark meet.
Hodge ran a time of 22:05.0 to lead the Lions with a 45th-place finish, besting the time of Kelsea Geschwentner, who ran a time of 22:22.5 in 2013. Hodge and the Lions finished 19th of 34 teams with 547 points, recording a program-best 6k average with a 23:49.
Hailey Malik placed 85th for the Lions in 22:42.0, with Annabella Tedder next to cross the line in 161st in 24:35.7. Rounding out the top five for the Lions were Cecilia Perez in 24:41.2 and Madison Thurston in 25:05.8.
Completing the scoring for UAFS Quincy Efurd and Kailey Pentz, who finished back-to-back in 25:39.3 and 25:41.1, respectively.
On the men's side, the Lions placed 31st with 919 points, led by Conner Valentine in 203rd in 26:56.4 in the 8k event. Tyreek Gilkey followed Valentine in 27:32.3 with Parker Brown the third Lion to finish in 27:57.1.
Troy Ferguson finished in 28:14.4 while Adan Castillo crossed the line in 28:14.4. Rounding out the scoring for the Lions was Vincent Gonzales in 28:38.1 and Luke Bledsoe in 28:55.8.
"We always hope for solid performances when we make the trip to Huntsville and today we saw that on both sides," head coach Mason Rhodes said. "This is the time of the season we want to be hitting our stride."
With the regular season complete, UAFS will next compete in the MIAA Championships October 26 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
