Johnson, Petross garner LSC postseason honors

RICHARDSON, Texas - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball pitchers Brayden Johnson and Jakob Petross were both honored with postseason accolades Wednesday evening at the Lone Star Conference Championship banquet.

Petross was named to the All-LSC Academic Team while Johnson was named second team All-LSC.

The All-Academic team is chosen by the league's sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.

Petross was second on the team to Johnson in both innings pitched with 55.0 and strikeouts with 51 in 18 appearances with six starts.

Johnson was the ace of the staff for the Lions this season, leading the team with four wins in 13 starts. He finished fourth in the LSC with a 4.03 ERA, sixth in innings pitched with 76.0 and sixth in strikeouts with 84.

Johnson tied his own program record with 13 strikeouts in the season opener against East Central, as he tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. He was named the LSC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week for his performance. Johnson pitched two complete games and pitched at least five innings in all 13 starts.
