TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Outfielder JJ Young hit his seventh home run of the season but University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball dropped a 15-5 decision at Northeastern State on Tuesday.
Young's homer in the second gave the Lions a 1-0 lead but the RiverHawks answered with five runs in the bottom half and then added two more in the fourth for a 7-1 advantage.
Outfielder Nick Mazzola then hit a solo blast in the fifth but Northeastern then scored six times in the bottom of the fifth. Outfielder Connor Earleywine also had a solo homer for the Lions in the seventh.
Mazzola led the Lions with three hits and two runs scored while Young and infielder Caleb Eisenhower each had two hits. Young added an RBI single in the sixth.
Jett Frazier allowed seven runs over three-plus innings on the mound, while Spencer Bass tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.
UAFS returns home Thursday to host Northeastern State at 1 p.m. at Crowder Field.
