FORT SMITH, Ark. - Eight of the nine batters collected a hit for University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball on Sunday, but the Lions dropped the series finale to Missouri Southern, 18-9, at Crowder Field.
Quinton Borders, Ty Wiley and JJ Young each had two hits for the Lions, with Young scoring twice and driving in two on a homer in the fourth.
Missouri Southern scored twice in the top of the first before the Lions scored a single tally in the bottom half after Connor Earleywine walked, stole a base and scored on a wild pitch.
MSSU then extended the lead to 9-2 before Young's homer.
The teams combined for 11 runs in the sixth inning as Missouri Southern scored six times and UAFS five times. UAFS scored three times on wild pitches as well as an RBI single by infielder Shelby Anders and a triple by infielder Layne Sweat.
Earleywine and infielder Caleb Eisenhower each scored twice on the afternoon.
Spencer Bass did not allow a hit in two innings in relief.
Next up for the Lions is a midweek contest at Northeastern State at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
