FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball was swept in a doubleheader Saturday at Crowder Field, falling 5-3 and 14-3 to visiting UT Permian Basin.
The Lions will look to split the series Sunday in the finale at 1 p.m. Prior to the game, Senior Day festivities will take place at 12:45.
UTPB 5, UAFS 3
Designated hitter Dan Taylor homered to left center on the very first pitch he saw to lead off the game, but the Lions only collected one hit the rest of the game in the opener.
UAFS pushed across a run in the third for a 2-0 lead when infielder Noah Davis scored on a sacrifice fly, but the Falcons broke through in the fourth, scoring four times off starter Brayden Johnson.
The Falcons added a run in the fifth on a wild pitch for a 5-2 advantage.
Nico Patrick doubled to lead off the sixth and scored on a wild pitch to pull within 5-3 and a Matt Schilling walk brought the tying run to the plate, but the Lions were unable to get any closer.
Johnson finished the game with five innings pitched, allowing five runs on seven hits with five punchouts. Luke Davenport pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
UTPB 14, UAFS 3
The Falcons pounded out 23 hits in the nightcap to sweep the doubleheader.
Taylor once again provided the offense for the Lions, hitting his second homer of the day in the third. He also led off the game with a double.
The Lions tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh on a sac fly by Davis and an RBI double by Schilling, respectively.
Starter Jakob Petross was chased after three innings of work, allowing five runs on nine hits.
