FORT SMITH, Ark. – Left-hander Riley Lowry tossed seven scoreless innings as University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball defeated UT Permian Basin, 7-3, Sunday at Crowder Field on Senior Day.

Lowry struck out eight and allowed just five hits as he picked up his first win of the season. His previous longest outing was four innings in a win at Cameron. He struck out the side in the top of the first and got out of a jam in the fourth after runners were on second and third with one out.

UAFS scratched across a run in the fourth after outfielder Blayse Quarnstrom tripled to right center to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by outfielder Michael Brinton. The Lions then tallied a second run in the fifth on an RBI double by designated hitter Dan Taylor.

The Lions broke the game open in the eighth after they loaded the bases with three straight singles to start the inning. After the Falcons recorded two outs, first baseman Dakota Peters lined a triple to deep center to clear the bases followed by a first-pitch two-run homer by catcher Kade Brewer for a 7-0 lead.

Quarnstrom led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored while Taylor was 2-for-4 at the plate. Brewer finished 2-for-4, as well, with two runs and two RBIs.

Devon Chapa pitched a scoreless eighth for the Lions while Trevor Johnson pitched the ninth to close out the game.

UAFS travels to UT Tyler April 28-30 to close out the regular season.
