Baseball looks to bounce back versus Texas A&M International

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball is back in action at Crowder Field this weekend, hosting Texas A&M International for a four-game series.

The first pitch of the series is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The series will then conclude Sunday with a single game, also at 1 p.m.

All four games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5. Live stats will be available at uafslions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions faced an uphill battle at No. 3 Angelo State, as the Rams swept the four-game series with the Lions.

OVER THE FENCE: UAFS hit four home runs in a game for the second time this season in the finale against the Rams. The other was at St. Mary's.

AT THE PLATE: Shortstop Matt Schilling leads the Lions with a .323 batting average, four home runs and 14 RBIs. Catcher Nico Patrick is hitting .318 while outfielder Michael Brinton is second with 12 RBIs.

ON THE MOUND: Brayden Johnson leads UAFS on the mound with a 2.10 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 30.0 innings. Jakob Petross has a 4.38 ERA in 24.2 innings of relief while starter Grant Shankle leads the team with two wins.

WALK IT OFF: Five of the last seven home wins for the Lions have come via the walk off.

SCOUTING TAMIU: The Dustdevils won the final game of their series last week against UT Tyler and are 7-15, 6-14 LSC. Outfielder Joseph Cruz leads TAMIU with a .347 average and 17 runs scored while outfielder Matt Kissamis has a team-high three homers and 18 RBIs. Righty Ian Cabrera is 2-1 on the mound with a 4.82 ERA and 34 strikeouts on a pitching staff that ranks 12th in the LSC with an 8.80 ERA.

THE SERIES: UAFS leads the series by a 33-12 margin after winning three of four games last season. The Lions have won 23 of the last 26 meetings with the Dustdevils.
