FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball will travel to Lone Star Conference preseason favorite Angelo State this weekend, taking on the Rams in a four-game series.
The series begins Friday at 6:30 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at 4 p.m. The series concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. All four games will be streamed on the LSC Digital Network with live stats available at uafslions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: The Lions lost three out of four at home against Lubbock Christian last week.
15: The 15 innings the Lions played in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against LCU matches the longest game in program history of the NCAA II era.
COMPLETE GAMES: Both Brayden Johnson and Grant Shankle tossed a complete game in the seven inning contests against the Chaps last weekend.
6: UAFS is 5-2 when scoring more than six runs and 3-0 when leading after the sixth inning.
AT THE PLATE: Infielder Matt Schilling leads the Lions with a .308 batting average with three homers, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored. Outfielders Michael Brinton and Brandon Ulmer have 11 and 10 RBIs, respectively.
ON THE MOUND: Johnson has a team-best 1.08 ERA with 31 strikeouts in four starts. Shankle has a 2-1 record, while relievers Jakob Petross and Logan Grant have been strong out of the bullpen with 41 strikeouts in 28.2 innings.
SCOUTING ASU: The Rams lead the conference with a 13-3 record and are 7-1 at home this season. ASU has nine players with more than 10 RBIs, with outfielder Thomas Cain leading the way with a .422 batting average. Lefty Kade Bragg leads the Rams on the mound with a 4-0 record and 0.00 ERA with 35 strikeouts over 23.2 innings.
THE SERIES: Angelo State leads the series with the Lions, 7-1. The win for UAFS came in the 2021 LSC Tournament.
