Baseball to host Lubbock Christian; series moved up due to weather

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball has altered its weekend series with Lubbock Christian due to weather, with the series now scheduled to be played Thursday through Saturday at Crowder Field.

The series will begin with a doubleheader Thursday at 2 p.m .and conclude with a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m. For updated information on game times, visit uafslions.com or follow UAFS Athletics on social media.

All four games will be live streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with live stats available at uafslions.com. Thursday's games will be broadcast on AM1230 while Friday's games will be broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS split its weekend series at St. Mary's, winning the first two games before dropping the final two by a combined three runs.

SLUGFEST: The Lions hit four home runs in the series finale against the Rattlers. Shortstop Matt Schilling hit two homers while outfielders Michael Brinton and Brandon Ulmer each had one.

EARLY SUCCESS: UAFS is outscoring opponents 17-8 in the first inning this season.

THE CLOSER: Logan Grant has adapted to his new role right away, picking up two saves against the Rattlers. He has allowed just one hit with eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings this season.

AT THE PLATE: Schilling leads the Lions with a .303 average and 11 runs scored while tallying eight RBIs. He and Ulmer each have three homers, while Ulmer and Brinton lead the team with nine RBIs each.

ON THE MOUND: Brayden Johnson leads the Lions with a 0.50 ERA in 18.0 innings with 27 strikeouts and has posted a 1-1 record in three starts. In six appearances out of the bullpen, Jakob Petross has posted a 0.55 ERA with 23 punchouts in 16.1 innings.

SCOUTING LCU: The Chaps enter the series with a 7-5 record after splitting last weekend with UT Tyler. Infielder Eduardo Acosta leads three LCU batters hitting over .400 with a .489 average while leading the team with 23 runs scored. Outfielder Chris Shull is batting .396 with five homers and 23 RBIs. The Chaps have not been as successful on the mound, as they have a 7.33 team ERA.

THE SERIES: The Lions trail the series with the Chaps, 18-9, dating back to 2014.
