KINGSVILLE, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball shot just 30.0 percent in the first half as it dropped a Lone Star Conference road contest, 71-56, Thursday at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
TAMUK scored a three on the opening possession of the game, but the Lions answered with six straight points for the early 6-3 lead. However, a 9-0 run by the Javelinas gave them a lead they would hold for the remainder of the game.
UAFS trailed 37-24 at the break, but cut the deficit to single digits at 48-39 with 12:13 remaining. That was as close as the Lions would get as the Javelinas back to double digits with four straight points.
Three scored in double figures for the Lions, led by 15 points from guard Evan Anderson. Anderson went 6-for-6 from the line and added six rebounds and three assists, as well. Both guard Cameron Bush and forward Jaxon Ingram scored 11 points.
The Lions finished the game shooting 45.2 percent after shooting 59.1 percent in the second half. UAFS had a 28-22 edge in points in the paint, but made only one three to eight for the Javelinas. TAMUK also won the turnover battle, 15-8, and scored 18 points off those turnovers.
UAFS will look to bounce back Saturday at Texas A&M International where tip is set for 3 p.m.
