Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Defense stifles Dustdevils in road win

LAREDO, Texas – For just the second time in program history, University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball did not allow a made three pointer in a 46-42 road victory at Texas A&M International Saturday.

The Lions defense held the Dustdevils to 0-for-16 from distance and 33.3 percent from the floor in a defensive battle. They held TAMIU to just 26.1 percent shooting in the second half.

The game featured seven ties and 10 lead changes as neither team led by more than five points.

UAFS trailed 40-37 with 3:54 remaining before the Lions went on a 6-0, with the first four points coming from forward Jaxon Ingram. After TAMIU scored to get back within one, Ingram answered once again with a basket to go back up three.

A defensive stop put guard Cameron Bush at the line, where he split a pair of free throws. The Lions then survived a number of desperation attempts by the Dustdevils to hold on for the win.

UAFS broke a 14-14 tie in the first half with a 7-2 run to get out to a 21-16 lead. The Lions then went into the break with a 23-22 lead. A 7-2 run in the second half by TAMIU gave the Dustdevils a 33-30 edge, and the teams traded the lead until Ingram gave the Lions the lead for good.

Forward Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu led the Lions in scoring with 11 points and added four rebounds and two steals. Bush tallied nine points and four assists while both Ingram and guard Evan Anderson each scored seven points. Ingram pulled down a team-high six rebounds and Anderson matched Bush's four dimes.

UAFS finished shooting 43.6 percent from the field.

Next for the Lions is a return home to place St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
