TYLER, Texas – The trio of guards Cameron Bush, Payton Brown and Evan Anderson combined to score 51 points as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball snapped a four-game losing streak with a 68-58 victory over UT Tyler Thursday.
UAFS shot 54.5 percent in the first half and 61.9 percent in the second half to finish at 58.1 percent (25-for-43).
Bush led the Lions with 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting to go with six rebounds, while Brown tallied 18 points. Anderson scored 14 points with five rebounds and three assists.
The Lions opened the game on a 9-2 run with the aforementioned trio scoring the first 11 points for the Lions. Guard Drew Miller added seven points in the first half as the Lions led by as many as 14 points in the opening 20 minutes.
A 7-0 run late in the half by the Patriots cut the lead to 28-24 with the Lions then taking a 30-27 lead into the locker room.
The Patriots pulled within two multiple times in the early stages of the second half, but the Lions never relinquished the lead before extending the lead back to double digits with a 12-3 burst. A Brown three gave the Lions their largest lead of the game at 66-49 with 4:05 remaining and the Lions coasted to victory.
UAFS held the Patriots to just 36.4 percent shooting and dominated the points in the paint, 26-16.
Next up for the Lions is a rematch at Dallas Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday.
