Bush guides Lions to overtime win over Patriots

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball outscored UT Tyler 14-6 in overtime as the Lions held on for an 83-75 victory over the Patriots Sunday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.

The Patriots held a 73-72 lead with 3:30 remaining in the extra period before the Lions went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes. Guard Cameron Bush had six of his 14 points in overtime.

Bush stuffed the stat sheet, contributing eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks, as well.

UAFS held a 38-25 lead at halftime, breaking a 17-15 game open with a 12-2 run, fueled by eight points by guard Payton Brown. UAFS shot 48.5 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes and 46.2 percent from three.

The Patriots cut the deficit to five by opening the second half on an 8-0 run before the Lions grew the lead back to 12. The Lions maintained the lead for the remainder of the half until the final seconds, when the Patriots tied the game at 69-69 with a free throw, closing regulation on a 6-0 run.

UAFS had a chance to win it at the buzzer but was unable to get a shot off.

Brown led the Lions with 27 points and two steals, shooting 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and 10-for-12 from the charity stripe. Forward David Ekezie gave the Lions three in double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Guard Evan Anderson distributed a team-high six assists. Forward Connor Slater contributed eight points and seven rebounds as a reserve.

Up next for the Lions is a road matchup at Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday.
