MEMPHIS – Carlos Hernandez picked up right where he left off the last two seasons, leading the Lions at the season opening City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic Saturday night.
Hernandez finished just outside the top 20, placing in 21st in a time of 21:12.36 in the four-mile run. Freshman Joaquin Alva was the second Lion to finish, taking home 45th in a time of 22:40.92.
Cade Weatherton placed 52nd while Corey Maxwell was right behind in 53rd. They finished in 23:09.45 and 23:09.66, respectively. Rounding out the top five for the Lions was Oskar Minick in 57th with a time of 23:30.98.
Minick was the first of five consecutive Lions across the line, as he was followed by Samuel Giles, Lawson Douglas, Isaac Teague and Jordan Foster.
UAFS placed eighth as a team with 204 points.
