JOPLIN, Mo. – Carlos Hernandez set a new school record in the 8k as he led University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Cross Country at the Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday.
Hernandez bested his previous time by more than 30 seconds by posting a time of 26:02.04 to finish 53rd.
Lawson Douglas was the second Lion to finish, placing 128th in a time of 27:16.06. Jordan Foster rounded out the top three for UAFS by finishing in 153rd in 27:38.64.
"I am extremely proud with our performance today," Head Coach Mason Rhodes said. "We showed up and left everything we had on the course. We competed from start to finish and saw many run season and lifetime best races. Looking forward we have two weeks to get back to work before we head to Chile Pepper in Fayetteville for our mid-season check in."
Completing the top five for the Lions were Corey Maxwell in 180th and Cade Weatherton in 189th. Maxwell ran the 8k in 28:09.84 and Weatherton in 28:22.65. The sixth and seventh finishers for UAFS were Eko Tuel in 28:22.65 and Oskar Minick in 28:43.64.
Hernandez, Maxwell, Weatherton, Tuel and Douglas all ran 8k personal bests on the day.
UAFS placed 19th as a team with 510 points.
UAFS will next run in the Chile Pepper Festival September 30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
