Baseball welcomes UT Tyler to Crowder Field this weekend

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball returns to Crowder Field this weekend as the Lions are slated to host UT Tyler for a four-game Lone Star Conference series April 8-10.

The series gets started at 1 p.m. first pitch Friday along with the Teal Tailgate from 12-2 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center patio. The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and concludes Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m., as well.

All four games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5. Live stats will also be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions lost three out of four games at UT Permian Basin last weekend.

SUNNY SIDE UP: Third baseman Brooks Sunny batted .538 (7-for-13) with a grand slam and 13 RBIs at UTPB. He also added two doubles, a triple, a stolen base and scored seven runs.

LEADING AFTER 6: UAFS is 11-0 when leading after the sixth inning but just 1-19 when trailing after the sixth inning.

GETTING ON BASE: First baseman Nolan Riley currently has a 23-game streak of reaching base safely. Sunny and catcher Nico Patrick also have current streaks in double digits at 11 and 13, respectively.

AT THE PLATE: Outfielder Kinner Brasher continues to lead the Lions with a .329 average, while Riley is up to .314 after batting .636 with seven runs and three RBIs last weekend. Sunny is batting .308 with four homers and 36 RBIs.

ON THE MOUND: Dylan Rollins collected his first save of the year over the weekend while Brayden Johnson earned his second win of the year Saturday.

SCOUTING UTT: UT Tyler is 18-14 overall and has won eight of its last nine games following an off week last weekend. Outfielder Carson Cox leads the Patriots with a .406 average while adding two homers and 19 RBIs. Lefty Dylan Blomquist has been the top starter for the Patriots on the mound, with a 4.02 ERA and a 5-1 record with 38 strikeouts. Closer A.J. Irvin has a 0.64 ERA in 14 innings with four saves.

THE SERIES: The Patriots lead the series, 5-1, with all six games coming the last two seasons after UT Tyler made the jump to NCAA II.
