Lions close March with homestand against Aggies

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of the Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball is set to welcome Cameron University to Crowder Field this weekend, as the teams begin a four-game Lone Star Conference series Friday at Crowder Field.

First pitch for Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. The series finale is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m.

All four games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with the games also broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5. Live stats will be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS split its four-game series at Eastern New Mexico, winning the final two games after dropping the first two.

GOING THE DISTANCE: Starter Logan Grant pitched a complete game in the 5-3 win over the Greyhounds. He was working on a four-hit shutout and had the Hounds down to their final strike before allowing a home run, but promptly retired the next batter to end the game. He had eight punchouts and no walks.

GOOD THINGS COME IN 3s: Four players tallied at least three hits in the 13-4 win in the series finale over ENMU. Catcher Nico Patrick had a team high three RBIs, while three runs also scored on a passed ball or wild pitch.

LEADING AFTER 6: UAFS is 8-0 when leading after six innings but just 1-15 when trailing after the sixth frame.

AT THE PLATE: Outfielder Kinner Brasher continues to lead UAFS with a .358 average while outfielder Hunter Church is batting .314 with five homers, 17 RBIs and has scored 24 runs. Third baseman Brooks Sunny is hitting .300 with three homers and 21 RBIs.

ON THE MOUND: Pitcher Dylan Rollins made his first start last week and allowed just three runs over eight innings in the finale last weekend. He put up zeros in his final five innings. Brayden Ross was also strong in relief, allowing three runs over six innings of work.

THE SERIES: The series is tied at 4-4 after the Lions took two of three from the Aggies last season.

SCOUTING CU: The Aggies are 8-15, 8-14 LSC after being swept last week against UT Tyler. Outfielder Jordan Harrison-Dudley leads the Cameron lineup with a .325 average to go with seven homers and 32 RBIs. On the mound, reliever Tyler Cornett leads the Aggies with a 2.66 ERA over 20.1 innings with 30 strikeouts.
