Baseball heads west to Eastern New Mexico

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball heads west this weekend to Eastern New Mexico University to face the Greyhounds in a four-game Lone Star Conference series.

The series begins Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a doubleheader Saturday at 3 p.m. and the series finale Sunday at 2 p.m. All times listed are central time. The games be viewed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with live stats also available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS dropped three of four games at Crowder Field last weekend to No. 3 West Texas A&M.

WALK-OFF: Outfielder Zach Slunder delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning in the 11-10 win over the Buffs.

TWO-OUT RALLIES: In addition to the walk-off coming with two outs, the Lions scored four times with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. The inning was capped by a two-run homer by infielder Noah Davis.

CAREER FIRSTS: Trevor Brown, Mac Moody and Davis all hit their first career homers for the Lions in the series against West Texas A&M.

AT THE PLATE: Outfielder Kinner Brasher leads UAFS with a .350 batting average while outfielder Hunter Church is hitting .324 with five homers and 16 RBIs. Third baseman Brooks Sunny has a team-high 18 RBIs to go with three homers and a .308 average.

ON THE MOUND: Lukas Petross earned his second win of the season over the weekend, while Dylan Parham, Brayden Ross and Brayden Johnson all had at least six strikeouts in their appearances against the Buffs.

SCOUTING ENMU: The Greyhounds are 8-12, 7-11 LSC after taking three of four at UT Tyler. Outfielder Spencer Roach is the reigning LSC and South Central Region Hitter of the Week and leads the Hounds with a .348 average to go with three homers and 11 RBIs. In five appearances out of the bullpen, William McBride has posted a 1-0 record with a 0.73 ERA over 12.1 innings.

THE SERIES: UAFS leads the series with the Greyhounds, 6-1, taking three out of four in 2020 and sweeping the three-game series in 2021.
