LUBBOCK, Texas – An 18-2 run by Lubbock Christian to open the second half broke a 27-27 tie as the Chaps defeated University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball, 73-56, Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center.
The Lions cut the lead to 12 numerous times throughout the second half but were never able to pull within single digits. UAFS shot 38.3 percent from the floor while the Chaps shot 51.7 percent in the second half.
Guard Evan Anderson played all 40 minutes and led the Lions with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and 6-for-7 at the free throw line. Guard Payton Brown added 14 points, while guard Cameron Bush had eight points, seven rebounds and five assists.
A back and forth first half featured six ties and six lead changes, as neither team led by more than six. UAFS had scored eight of the first 10 points for an early 8-2 lead.
However, the Chaps answered with a 7-0 run before Anderson regained the lead for the Lions with a jumper. UAFS went up 27-23 with 3:42 left but was held scoreless the rest of the half as the Chaps tied it up heading into the break.
Lubbock Christian had significant advantages in points in the paint, second chance points and points off turnovers.
The Lions return home next week to host Angelo State and UT Permian Basin.
