FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball is back at Crowder Field this weekend, hosting Eastern New Mexico for a three-game series Friday and Saturday.
First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two to follow. Saturday will also have a start time of 1 p.m. for a single game. All three games can be seen on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: UAFS was swept in a series at No. 12 West Texas A&M, losing the three games by just five combined runs.
SUNNY SHINES: Sophomore third baseman Brooks Sunny went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBIs and scored three runs in a 16-14 loss in game three. Senior catcher Dylan Hurt also had four hits in the game.
'WALK'ING AROUND: The Lions batted around in the seventh inning of game two and scored four runs without recording a hit. Five batters walked while another reached on a fielder's choice. UAFS also scored a run on a wild pitch.
HOT BATS: UAFS had been 3-0 on the year when scoring 10 or more runs in a game until last weekend. However, the Lions had scored three runs or less when scoring 10 or more until doing it in back-to-back games against the Buffs. The 16 hits in Sunday's game were the most of the season.
ERROR FREE: UAFS is 3-0 when not committing an error, but just 2-10 when committing at least one error.
AT THE PLATE: Sunny leads the Lions with a .289 batting average and three home runs, while Hurt is second with a .283 average and leads the team with 11 RBIs. Junior outfielder Hunter Church has hit his way into the lineup, batting .500 (5-for-10) over the weekend and is batting .417 on the year.
ON THE MOUND: Freshman right-hander Lukas Petross has posted a 1.98 ERA in 13.2 innings of relief this season, while freshman lefty Nico Sharp is 4-0 with a 2.53 ERA this season.
SCOUTING ENMU: The Greyhounds are 5-10, 4-10 LSC and are having to play their entire schedule on the road. Junior infielder Daniel Hunt leads the Greyhounds at the plate with a .318 batting average. On the mound, reliever Cooper Hamilton has posted a 1.88 ERA over 14.1 innings out of the bullpen.
THE SERIES: UAFS leads the all-time series, 3-1, with the only meetings taking place last season at Crowder Field.
