CLAREMORE, Okla. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball took a first inning lead but was unable to hold on in a 16-4 defeat at No. 15 Rogers State on Wednesday.
The Lions loaded the bases in the top of the first with no outs but only scored once on a double play for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Hillcats struck for six runs.
Rogers State then added four runs in the second and two more in the third. UAFS tallied a run in the third, as well, on one of four Hillcat errors.
In the fifth, the Lions scored twice on an RBI groundout by outfielder CJ Snowden and on a passed ball. Rogers State then added three runs in the bottom of the fifth and a final tally in the sixth.
Five different Lions collected hits on the afternoon with outfielder Connor Earleywine scoring twice.
The Lions return to Crowder Field Friday at 1 p.m. to begin a three-game series against Missouri Southern.
