ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball wrapped up the Henderson State Invitational with a 21-11 defeat in eight innings to the host Reddies Sunday.
The Lions used an eight run third inning to take an 8-6 lead but the Reddies broke an 11-11 tie with a run in the sixth and then seven in the seventh to pull away.
Trailing 6-0 entering the third, the Lion bats woke up as the Lions scored eight runs before the second out was made. After the first three batters reached on singles, infielder Quinton Borders put the Lions on the board with a two-run double.
A double by infielder Caleb Eisenhower cut the lead in half before four straight batters reached on a walk or hit by pitch to tie the game. Infielder Layne Sweat then put the Lions ahead with a two-run single.
HSU tied the game in the fifth before each team traded three-run sixth innings. Sweat doubled in a pair of runs in the frame while Borders added a sacrifice fly.
The Reddies scored the final 13 runs of the game over the final three innings.
Sweat led the Lions with three hits and four runs driven in while Connor Earleywine, CJ Snowden and Wyatt Pierce all had two hits each.
UAFS is next at Oklahoma Baptist at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
