ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball scored a season-high 10 runs but the Lions were unable to hold onto a sixth inning lead as they fell to Ouachita Baptist, 13-10, in game three of the Henderson State Invitational Saturday.
The teams traded runs in the second inning before the Lions regained the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by infielder Quinton Borders. However, the Tigers tallied six runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 7-2 lead.
But the Lions answered right back with six runs of their own in the top of the sixth, starting with a solo homer by outfielder CJ Snowden. Catcher Carter Allen followed with an RBI double and then scored on an RBI single by outfielder Connor Earleywine.
The Lions tied the game on a two-run double by outfielder Nick Mazzola, with Mazzola then scoring to give the Lions the lead on an OBU error.
However, the UAFS bullpen was unable to hold on to the lead, as the Tigers tallied two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh. UAFS got two runs back in the eighth on RBI singles from Borders and Snowden but left two runners on.
The Lions knocked out 18 hits, with Snowden going 4-for-5 and Borders and Caleb Eisenhower each collecting three hits.
Steffan Fak earned the start on the mound and allowed just one run on three hits over four innings with three strikeouts, but the bullpen surrendered 12 runs.
UAFS wraps up the weekend with a rematch at Henderson State at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
