FORT SMITH, Ark. – No. 25 University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball had six players score in double figures as the Lions downed Nebraska-Kearney, 83-80 at the Stubblefield Center Thursday night.
Guard Brandon Scott paced the Lions with 16 points followed by guard Jarren McAllister with 14 points. Guard Christian Moore added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds with three steals, while guard Kanaan Holder had 11 points and six boards off the bench.
Forward Kameron Johnson and guard Aiden Buckmon each had 10 points to round out the six.
The Lions scored the first five points of the game and raced out to a 17-2 lead holding the Lopers without a field goal for the first 7:50 of the game.
The Lopers cut the lead to one at 24-23 with 4:12 left in the half but the Lions responded with a 7-0 run and took a 40-31 lead into halftime.
UAFS used an extended 15-4 run late in the second half to have its largest lead at 21 points before the Lopers had one last burst to get back to within 10 with 1:22 left, but Moore iced the game with a three with 27 seconds left.
The Lions finished 24-for-29 at the free throw line and outscored the Lopers, 30-22, in points in the paint.
Next up for the Lions is a contest against Fort Hays State at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.
