ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball had its 14-game win streak in season openers snapped Thursday night as the Lions fell to Henderson State, 7-0.
Starting pitcher Aden Almeida threw five scoreless innings on the mound, allowing just three hits while striking out four.
However, the bullpen surrendered seven runs over the final three frames, as Garrett Smith took the loss after allowing three runs in a third of an inning.
The Lions tallied five hits on the evening, with two from infielder Quinton Borders. Outfielders Nick Mazzola, CJ Snowden and pinch hitter Cody Walkingstick all had one hit each.
UAFS is back in action Friday at 1:30 p.m. against Harding at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia.
