ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball clinched a berth in the MIAA Tournament next month with a 98-87 road win at Missouri Western on Thursday.
Guard Christian Moore tied his season high with 25 points and dished out seven assists while forward Kameron Johnson went 10-for-11 from the floor to finish with 20 points.
The Lions' 62.9 percent shooting percentage was a season best while the 98 points were the most against an NCAA II opponent.
UAFS shot 58.8 percent in the first half as the Griffons shot 60.7 percent in a back-and-forth contest with UAFS holding the largest lead at five as the teams went to the locker room tied at 47.
Leading 72-66, the Lions went on a 6-0 to extend the lead to 12. Missouri Western briefly cut the deficit back to single digits, but the Lions responded with a 14-7 burst to take their largest lead of the game at 92-76.
UAFS shot a blistering 67.9 percent in the second half and finished 11-for-20 from beyond the arc. The Lions outscored the Griffons 54-34 in points in the paint.
Five finished in double figures, as guard VJ Reeves scored 13 points on 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc and guard Brandon Scott tallied 11 points. Guard Kanaan Holder added 12 points off the bench.
The Lions are next at Northwest Missouri State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
