TOPEKA, Kan. – No. 25 University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball was unable to hold onto a halftime lead as the Lions fell on the road, 81-53, at No. 3 Washburn Thursday.
The Lions held a 31-30 edge at the break, but the Ichabods shot 55.9 percent in the second half as the Lions were outscored, 51-22. Washburn started the second half on an 11-2 run and then used an 18-3 run to turn a seven-point game into a 22-point margin.
UAFS came out of the gate strong, holding a 10-5 lead at the first media timeout. The Lions led 17-10 before the Ichabods tied the game with a 7-0 run, but UAFS bounced back to take a 27-18 advantage before the Ichabods closed the half on a 12-4 run over the last five minutes.
The Lions held Washburn to 35.7 percent shooting in the first half while shooting 37.5 percent.
Washburn outrebounded the Lions, 46-28 and had a 24-8 edge in second chance points and a 36-26 advantage in points in the paint.
Guard Jarren McAllister led the Lions with 14 points while guard Kanaan Holder had seven points and seven rebounds. Guard VJ Reeves added eight points.
